On Sunday, 3rd May 2026, Bishop Mtekateka Secondary School hosted a thanksgiving service on its campus, led by the Lord Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi, Right Reverend Daniel Kalonga.
In his sermon, Bishop Kalonga urged students to turn to God in times of trouble. Drawing from 1 Peter 2:10, Isaiah 62:1–5, and John 14:1–14, he reminded them that challenges are part of human life and that faith cannot exist without trials. He emphasized that problems should not be solved through human strength alone, as this often leads to sin and misconduct. Instead, he encouraged reliance on Jesus, who told his disciples not to let their hearts be troubled but to believe in God and in Him.
Touching on mental health, Bishop Kalonga addressed the issue of suicidal thoughts, stressing the importance of trusting God rather than resorting to destructive solutions. He concluded with a prayer for the upcoming 2026 educational visit to Central, Eastern, and Southern Malawi, scheduled for 4th–8th May.

In closing, Bishop Kalonga expressed appreciation for the discipline and commitment evident at Bishop Mtekateka Secondary School. He noted the honor of visiting the institution in his first year as Bishop of the Diocese of Lake Malawi. He urged students to seize the opportunity of learning at one of Malawi’s prestigious schools, reminding them that parents expect good results.
He cautioned against misconduct that could hinder their progress and highlighted the school’s role in shaping students both academically and spiritually. While acknowledging that God does not reveal the future, he encouraged them to trust in Him, live by His word, and work diligently for a fruitful future.
